From myspace.com/milestomars: Formed in the fall of 2000, Miles To Mars rose from the ashes of former RCA recording act, Papa Vegas. Frontman/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Joel Ferguson and drummer/vocalist Scott Stefanski, the only remainders of that outfit, decided to move on musically together after being common casualties of the "business" of music. After their two year stint on a major, they decided to do things themselves.
Formed in the fall of 2000, Miles To Mars rose from the ashes of former RCA recording act, Papa Vegas. Frontman/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Joel Ferguson and drummer/vocalist Scott Stefanski, the only remainders of that outfit, decided to move on musically together after being common casualties of the "business" of music. After their two year stint on a major, they decided to do things themselves. Always looking for the right chemistry in a band line-up, they went through many changes, at times having three guitars(!), until whittling it down to a trio in 2002. 'Sovereign' was born in Ferguson's home studio, with Ferguson himself handling the engineering, producing, mixing and most of the instrumentation(Stefanski hit drums; Martin Heynen played some bass). The eight songs on 2003's Sovereign are as diverse as a debut EP can get. From crunchy rock anthems to whispy, dreamy ballads; Sovereign delivers vast grooves with soaring melodies.
In 2004 the band took some time off; Heynen joined The Rocket King full time, while Stefanski persued other projects and Ferguson played guitar with the Bob Guiney Band, bass with The Verve Pipe and wrote song upon song. After all but disbanding, 2007 saw the reunion of Ferguson's old friend and writing partner, keyboardist/vocalist Randy Tate and bassist, John Connors. Look for upcoming shows in spring/summer 2007, and a new music as well.
Together in Papa Vegas and Miles To Mars, Ferguson and Stefanski have supported such acts as Kent, The Verve Pipe, The Goo Goo Dolls, Self, Mike Doughty, Sloan, Ours, Brian Vander Ark, Kings X, Superdrag, The Matthew Good Band and many others...
