Meredith Grant's innovative torch-folk-pop songs are violins washing in from the ocean, rhythms sprouting from dark earth, accordions dancing mournfully around a fire, and a voice to call back the wolves - all spun around a shining web of lovelorn harmonies! While writing for and playing most of the instruments on her debut homemade ep (2007), the current band includes a diverse group of musicians who also play in Tacoma Hellfarm Tragedy, Le Cyc, and Spy Machine 16. The resulting sound, with such diverse influences as klezmer, blues, soul, gothic, classical, folk, and rock music is sometimes melancholy, sometimes rollicking, sometimes sexy, and often haunting. Meredith's powerful vocals draw from the blues and torch singers of the past, and always deliver a strong emotional impact.
Meredith Grant has shared the stage with a host of Canadian musicians, including Luther Wright & the Wrongs, Dave Clarke, Krista Muir, and Tanya Davis. She is slated to open for Sarah Slean at the Go! Music Festival this month. Her ep has had radio play across the country, has charted several times in the Top 30 on CHUO 89.1 FM (Ottawa), and resulted in Meredith being booked for CIUT 89.5 FM's artist spotlight on the morning show ?Take 5." In addition to this project, Meredith plays accordion in a number of bands (The Houseplants, Richard Laviolette and the Oilspills) and writes moody instrumental music, some of which is being used in film (My Lucy Charm, 2007). Meredith is planning a full-length album release for 2009.
