Meelodi

The bandname Meelodi is a combination of the names of the two main members of this group, Ole And Medi (can u figure it out ? :-) Meelodi plays a unique mix of music maybe best labelled as ?Worldmusic?? The Persian vocals of Medi accompanied by everything from classical guitar to more worldy sounding stringed instruments to beats. Meelodi perform original material exclusively. Some lyrics are by great Persian writers like Rumi and Hafiz.

Meelodi just released their first album "Amedei" and its available on www.cdbaby.com. Playing live, Meelodi brings in other musicians and can be from 4 - 10 on stage depending on the venue

ABOUT MEDI: My date of coming to this world is 28.05.61 in Iran.I fell in love with painting when I was 11 y. old. I was 17 and busy about painting, when the revolution in Iran happend. When the war between Iran and Iraq started, I was working with 2 of the great masters of painting in Iran,they teached me with their own energy, how I can dedicate my life to painting, and so happend! During the war I painted to express peoples los and pain, I tried to show the negativ side of the religious regim. I also got into a political group which theirs activity was against the regim. Because of my paintings and my political conviction I had to escape from Iran, at the end of the war. My escape led me to Irak; where I stayed for many years. In Irak I had the chance to develop my artistic life, I got to know different artists both in music and painting. I found a new great way to express myself, through music and singing. Living as a refugee, for 7 years in Irak, UNITED NATIONS send me to Norway. After a little while in Norway ,I met someone who played persian instrument nicely and i started to sing, and it was cool. Then I met a nice musician, Ole Andre Farstad. We made a lovely connection in music, he with a great love for all differents string instruments and me witth the voice from The East. The last 7 years we have been playing together, in serious fun, respect and pleasure.

ABOUT OLE: I..m a musician living at the moment between Bergen, Norway and Sevilla, Spain.(where I have been studying flamenco for many years) I..m primerally a guitarist and find it difficult to label myself as within one style of playing . I also play many different kinds of string instruments from around the world and I like to play around and be creative with these in composing and improvising. Intruments like the Sarod and Mohan Vina from India, The Tres, Cuatro, Charango, Cavaquinho and Jarana from South America and the Oud, Otar and Gimbri from the arabic world. I also have a small recording studio in Bergen where I record and produce mostly my own music. I started playing in the small island of Har?y in the 80..s playing rock in local bands. I also studied the classical guitar, and at 16 I left the island to further develop his musical skills. I studied electric guitar at the Music Conservatory in Kristiansand for 5 years and also started a Masters degree in Etnomusicology at the University of Bergen (wich i didn..t finish by the way, to busy playing :-) I have a great interest in folkmusic from around the world and this has brought me to study intruments and music in countrys like India, Chile, Syria, Marocco and more profoundly I have been studying Flamenco music in Spain for many years.
