Real McCoy, formerly known as M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy was the brainchild of rapper and producer Olaf "O-Jay" Jeglitza. 1983-1989 The story starts sometime around 1983 when O-Jay met Quickmix, a Berlin D.J. After working some parties together, they decided to try and get into the recording business. Their started with a couple of recordings like Wanna Be A Star (Masterplan), Action (The Alliance), Come Into My Life - Rap (The Admirers) or Keep On Movin' - Rap (Rap IV Rap).
Right from the very first start they're produced their stuff by themselves and released it in cooperation with an indepentant distributor on their own label Freshline Records.
In 1989 they released a Cover-Rap Version of the Technotronics classic Pump Up The Jam und the name M.C. Sar & The Real McCoy.
They jumped on position 16 on the German Top 75 billboard charts (nowadays Top 100).
1990-1992
In 1990 they released their second single It's On You and this time they reached position 11 on the German Top 75 billboard charts. It also became a Top 5 hit in Spain, France, Austria and Switzerland.
After some follow up's and a longplay, One The Move, they took a break to prepare their new material and reorganize the structure of the band.
1993-1996
In June 1993 their released Another Night with their new label partner Hansa Records (nowadays Sony Music).
It turned into a worldwide smash. Followed by the second release Runaway. At this point the group was re-named to simply Real McCoy.
Shortly after the album Another Night was released Vanessa, who was a background vocal singer for Real McCoy became part of the stage crew, along with Patsy (Patricia Petersen) and O-Jay (Olaf Jeglitza).
In late 1996 after the release of The Remixed Album, Patsy left the group to continue her career as a solo artist. A new female singer by the name of Lisa Cork joined the group.
1997-1998
In 1997 Real McCoy released a new album called One More Time. The first single from that album was One More Time a song in the same style as Run Away & Another Night.
In June the second single I Wanna Come With You was released, a an uptempo song just like One More Time.
On April 20, 1998 an album called Love And Devotion was released. The album was a compilation of their greatest hits (to date), featuring some previously unreleased mixes.
1999-2000
Real McCoy was back with a release on May 30, 1999 in Germany with a remake of their first european hit It's On You.
In February 2000 a single called Hey Now was released
2001-2003
In November 2001 the CD-single Another Night was re-released again in the US by Arista.
In October 2002 the album Best Of Real McCoy was released.
In June 2003 the "best of ..." album Platinum & Gold Collection got released in the US.
2004-2007
In 2006 Real McCoy joined the polish pop act Ich Troje, for their Eurovision Song Contest contribution with a song called Follow My Heart.
In 2007 Real McCoy released the single People Are Still Having Sex, a cover version of the 1991 No.1 dance hit by LaTour.
2008
In 2008 Real McCoy signed a new Deal with Sony Music for 2 more albums. The first single and the following album will be released in Fall 2009.
