Mark Michaelson's music is highly personal, intense without being overbearing and enjoyable as a glass of iced tea on a hot summer day. From original compositions to songs by J.J. Cale, Los Lobos, and Elmore James, Mark's CD captures a lot of flavors on his first release. There's no better way to kickstart a record than with the song "Kickstart". Shimmering guitars create a mellow mood, and the CD moves on to a smoking road number, "Goodbye Atlanta", and about pulling up stakes and hauling ass.
There's no better way to kickstart a record than with the song "Kickstart". Shimmering guitars create a mellow mood, and the CD moves on to a smoking road number, "Goodbye Atlanta", and about pulling up stakes and hauling ass. The R & B flavor of Lo Lobos' "This Time" is very cool, as is Mark's take on their tune "If". The innuendo of J.J. Cale's "Humdinger" is raunchy but humorous. This is not for the faint of heart.
Michaelson explores a different side with his version of "Man Of COnstant Sorrow" that is more rocking that others you may have heard, but is equally poignant. He explores love with the swampy "Good Timing" and Elmore James' bluesy "Can't Hold Out", and heartbreak with the lush sounds of "Leavin' Wind". The CD closes out with the age-old pondering of the "Road Less Traveled", with its mournful guitar shadowing the singer's questions about life, existence and a place beyond these worldly bounds.
Take a listen to Mark Michaelson. Honest music is harder and harder to find, but he has delivered the goods with this record. You'll enjoy every note.
