Marc Arthur, a singer and songwriter, brings in a fresh and refined sound in acoustic pop rock. His style has been compared to Five For Fighting, Sting, and Amos Lee. A combination of tuneful melodies, love lyrics and tender vocals make up the essence of his exquisite style.
Marc Arthur was born in Estonia. This simple fact is amazing, for Arthur's colorful looks make one think of the southern parts of Italy or France, the warm and tender Mediterranean, rather than the chilly climate and reserve of the Baltic. However it was Estonia where Arthur grew up, got to music and recorded his first album.
It all started with the music school where Arthur's mother brought him, the youngest of her four children. Arthur played the piano but like most children he was appealed to sports and games more than to music books. The year before the finals Arthur was ready to quit the school - so serious was his attraction to football. But he surrendered to his parents' insistence and finished school with distinction. By the way, Arthur did not get any formal voice training though he used to sing at the school performances. The teachers suggested that he should go to the music conservatory. However, at that time his mind was not bent to music. Life offered numerous opportunities and music was just one of them.
Arthur came back to music two years later. His deepest impressions of the time are The Beatles, Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones. Hanging on to the music and joining in singing Arthur realized that he wanted to get back to music. That was also the time when he set out in quest of his own style.
Next came introduction to the music of Sting. Under his influence, Arthur began to compose his own music. Then he decided to organize a boy-band. The idea occurred to him in 1989; later Arthur found out that there was a surge of boy-bands across the world at that time, and the most famous was the New Kids On The Block.
In 1993 Arthur organizes the Noisy Nation band. Their style can be described as a zippy dance music combining different trends - from funk to rap. Arthur was the author of both the music and lyrics. The band caught attention, performed in the Baltic countries and some Scandinavian cities. The Noisy Nation band shared the stage with such musicians as Robert Miles and the British boy-band East 17. Arthur's team performed as a warm-up band during the Baltic tour of the German Scooter. The song Funky Attack was the leader of the national charts over seven weeks. This success lasts until 1995 when Arthur runs into creativity crisis followed by a deep depression. He neither performs nor composes songs for the group any more. In quest of a new identity and a niche for him Arthur comes to writings in psychology and philosophy, but can't find any answers in the books. He rejects the offer to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest and leaves for Europe - to drive away his depression and get some new impressions.
In 1998 Arthur leaves for London where he plunges into the bright and seething life of music festivals, nightclubs and small jazz cafes. He mixes with people, sniffs the air of creativity and ease gaining new experience. Arthur meets young musicians, visits studios, and listens to recordings making a note of everything important and interesting.
2007 became a breakthrough year for Marc Arthur. In March, Universal Music released his first solo album - Feel. A mix of contemporary pop rock with jazzy flavor caught fancy of many listeners while compositions You Give Me Love and Burning Bridges were welcomed with enthusiasm by critics. In November, Marc Arthur was invited to participate in two concerts as a support singer for Britain's living icon Bryan Ferry.
Marc Arthur is currently working in the studio on his new album Affinity which is scheduled for release in autumn 2008. The album's style can be described as acoustic pop rock. The first composition will be available to the listeners as early as the end of 2007, at the singer's official website www.marcarthur.com or www.myspace.com/marcarthur.
The focal point of his forthcoming album is love ? love to life, love to a woman, love as the source of joy and pain. Each song is a memory, an expression of a deep feeling, profound emotional experience.
Marc Arthur owns an independent record label - Foxcub Records.
