Many Birthdays is an electronic, lo-fi, post-punk, band from Austin, TX. A mixture of voices, instruments, and projected video, the band's songs are in both English and Japanese. Advocates of home-recording, Many Birthdays have made five limited edition cds. Their recent EP is entitled "Emptiness Is Forever" and is currently available online, at shows and in selected stores. 2005's "Sub Rapid Express" was written and recorded in Osaka, Japan during their year-long stay there.
Their music has been featured on the "Topless39" charts at Austin's KVRX, as well as punk legend Mike Watt's "The Watt from Pedro Show" radio programs. Many Birthdays songs were included in Austin artist/filmmaker Eric Power's feature length documentary "Swordplay", accepted and screened at the Delray Beach Film Festival and Solstice Film Fest in 2006.
Since returning from Japan, Many Birthdays have been performing live shows in Austin at a variety of venues such as the Mohawk, Club Deville, The Ritz (upstairs), Beauty Bar, Emo's Lounge, Flamingo Cantina, Hi-Lo, The Parlor, Elysium, 710 and Carousel Lounge with acts such as Eliot Lipp, Lymbyc Systym, Gossip, and Cex. JD also played with AM Syndicate in 2006, performing several regional shows and one east coast tour.
The current line up consists of Sarah Luce (synths, vocals), John Dixon(bass, synths, vocals), Rachel Fuhrer (drums), Henna Chou (guitar, percussion, backing vocals).
