Machetres

ma-che-tres ? a slang for a machete tied to a G3 riffle used by uprising Central American indigenous communities during the 1980s civil wars. Machetres is Lilo Gonzalez on guitars and lead vocals, Cristian Gajardo on drums, and Luis Torrealva on Bass. The band epitomizes a musical blend of rock/punk and Latin beats to songs that often refer back to their personal lives and the troubles that they as well as other Latino immigrants face.

The band epitomizes a musical blend of rock/punk and Latin beats to songs that often refer back to their personal lives and the troubles that they as well as other Latino immigrants face. This personal reflection is the inspiration behind their enthused commitment to their support of grassroots organization by performing benefit concerts throughout the community.

In 1998 the bands' first self titled release Machetres 7? record was produced by Guy Picciotto in a split release by Dischord / Brickthrower Records. Since then, the band has played throughout the United States and El Salvador. In 2003 Machetres released ?Do? as part of a compilation CD on Dischord Records. In April 2004 the band released their first full length album ?untitled?; released on Venceremos Records and recorded by Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios.

During the years, Machetres has shared the stage with great bands like Caf? Tacuba, El Vez, Fugazi, Molotov, The MakeUp, and most recently opened ?Operation Ceasefire?, a free concert in conjunction with the September 24th anti-war demonstrations in Washington, D.C.
