Looking For Heather

?Think of this one as a cleaning of the vaults, a filling in the blanks if you will? says looking for heather front man Jeff Gutteridge in reference to his bands new release ?You're Never Happy Where You Are?. The release marks the bands first proper release since 2001's ?The Heavenly Jukebox?, and Jeff along with long time band mate Jay Bowes are quick to point out that the band wasn't idle during that time and that in order to move forward one must go back.

So let's go back quickly to recap what happened since 2001 and the bands bestselling album to date.... After studio sessions for what was to be the follow up to ?jukebox? went sour in 2005, Jeff, Jay and drummer Randy Solski decided it was time to lay to rest what 10 years and 4 albums had built up. The band split off with Jeff and Randy going on to form Red Light Green and Jay releasing a solo album. Red Light Green played several shows and released an album in 2006, but the band didn't really find its groove in an overcrowded industry and Jeff quickly realized that he had stories left to tell that were better suited for the less restricting looking for heather. An e-mail was sent in early 2008 and Jay responded with a resounding ?yes? and the wheels where set in motion to put this band back on the road. What was needed now was a single to signify the band was back!

?Night Song? was unleashed that fall to widespread critical acclaim, many calling it ?the best rock song of 2008? and an ?instant classic?. Born in 2005, Night Song is a short, punchy stomper written by Jeff on his way home from a session at Randy's studio. The headlights on the road and the glow of Toronto on the horizon make a perfect backdrop for a love song about missing someone while you've been away. The tracks fast pace and high energy was the perfect track to tell the world to watch out, something big was about to happen!

The rest of the songs on this album are similar to night song in that they are all older songs that have been recently recorded. The band felt this was the best way to mark their return as a significant amount of time had passed since their last record.

?We had so much stuff and none of it really worked as an album, so we just gathered up a bunch of good songs we'd written over the last 8 years and put together this release. It's a new album you could say, but it's really a record designed to fill in the holes before we move forward.? Explains Jeff. The newest song on the release is an inspired anthem about turning around and going back to what you know entitled ?I Just Want to Go Home?. A Strong pounding rhythm and soaring chorus signify the new direction the band is headed in and prepares the listener for the journey ahead. The journey is set to continue in 2010 when the band is slated to release its first album of all new material, an album Jeff says may surprise a few, ?We're going to change the plot a little, try some new things and make a record in a different way...but for us to go forward, we had to go back.?
