There are THREE different bands going under the name 'Long Distance Runner'. One is a defunct indie rock band from Chicago which has the same lead singer as the band HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE. Another LONG DISTANCE RUNNER is the solo musical endeavor of drummer/producer Kyle Briggs. THE FIRE OF CUMULATIVE HOURS is Kyle's debut effort under the LDR moniker and was released September 5th, 2006 on his own EXISTENTIAL SOUNDS label.
This 5 song (29 minutes) LIMITED release (1000) was produced with various instruments, an Akai MPC 2000XL and Pro Tools - a method of composition employed by countless producers including RJD2, PREFUSE 73, CUT CHEMIST, DJ SHADOW, and MADLIB. Although Kyle's formative years in Los Angeles were spent behind a drum kit under the influence of FUGAZI, SONIC YOUTH, and BLONDE REDHEAD, he eventually became inspired to delve into the digital domain embraced by the aforementioned gurus of Hip-Hop and the sonic manipulations of indie experimentalists such as THE BOOKS, FOUR TET, TORTOISE, and CARIBOU.
Kyle plans to start work on a full-length album in 2007. In the meantime he is playing drums for up-and-coming indie-rock trio JUNKFACE, who released their debut album KILL THEM WITH LOVE on September 30th, 2006
The final Long Distance Runner is a band based in Seattle, Washington. So far their only released song is World Class Villains, which is available for listening on their MySpace site.
