Music runs deep in the tradition of New Orleans. That's why it's no surprise that singer/songwriter Liz Barnez has music coursing through her veins. She was, in her childhood and continues to be, inspired by the rich street sounds of the French Quarter; including jazz, blues, folk, gospel, R&B, Dixieland, funk and parade music. As the youngest of six kids, Liz was strongly influenced by the variety of music that was played around the house; including Big Band and Swing Music, Show Tunes...
It was while attending the University of New Orleans and singing in one of the various cover bands Barnez performed in that she met drummer Steve Amedee. Amedee was also a member of the newly - formed band, the subdudes, who became Barnez's first introduction to the local original music scene. The group encouraged Barnez to continue to write songs and to pursue an original music career. When the subdudes moved to Colorado in 1987 - finding a very supportive music scene in which to develop their sound - Barnez followed shortly afterward.
By the end of 1988, Barnez had recorded her first demo tape with Amedee, John Magnie and Tommy Malone of the subdudes, and Joe Cabral (now of the Iguanas) and Colorado's love affair with her music began.
Liz is currently performing around the country in a variety of combinations, from intimate solo singer/songwriter shows up to full blown band shows at popular concert venues and festivals.
