There are at least three different artists called Lip Service 1- Lip Service began as a project between JJ, formerly of such bands like No Regrets and The Oval Portrait, Pedro, and Rob. The thought process was to make music that they would buy if they were a consumer. It was a simple idea, blend together all their favorite styles of punk, new wave, and dance to somehow make music that would both be entertaining as well as interesting.

For almost a year, the three piece went through a series of line up changes and two different singers. Then one day, JJ saw Alex sing a drunken rendition of The Carpenter's ?Superstar? to Alex Eyeball's family at a karaoke bar. JJ thought to himself, ?I didn't know that Alex could sing!? Alex had a history of fronting such bands like Laura Palmer and Fuck Saddam in the Mouth, very few people knew that he could do more than scream.
Along with bass player Neal, the band wrote their first batch of songs with a vocalist. After three bass players, and a demo recorded by Will Killingsworth of Orchid fame, the band finally won the attention of Eyeball.
After the initial meeting with Eyeball, the band went through another, albeit necessary, line up transformation. Anthony Rajo, formerly of the metal outfit Low Down, was asked to play bass, but decided that his services would be best spent on playing guitar, and brought along his friend Keith, formerly of Good Friend Electric, to play bass. Instantly, the band's sound improved tenfold.
Quickly picking up after months of slack, the band started writing what is now considered Lip Service's sound, a blend of noisey pop, melodic guitar, and those oh-so-needed catchy hooks. Many people have compared both the band's sound and Alex's voice to numerous sources, with no two people ever having the same opinion.
