Lindsay Clark grew up in a small victorian Gold rush town, nestled in the foothills of northern California. Daughter to a Spanish and French speaking mother and a father who spent most of his time outdoors, she cultivated a deep love for language, nature, and all things foreign. Her piano studies began when she was quite young, and although lessons focused on classical, jazz, and blues playing, she quickly discovered an interest in folk music, and later poetry, shaping her first songs.
Her playing is driven by classical, blues, country, and gospel tinged piano parts, quietly well-worked soulful singing, and provocative harmonies. Much of her music has an off-beat feel, through inconsistency of meter, which will sometimes change between sections. There is a strong sense of idealism in her lyrics, which often feel like dreams; sleepy, vast imagery, and a sense of space and openness.
She is currently working on mixing and pressing her new record, which was recorded at the estate in Leominster with Djim Reynolds (Tigersaw, Casey Dienel, Christians & Lions, Jason Anderson, others). The songs are about love without release, trains making their way through the western plains, violets and wild roses, heartache, and happiness. The title is "Yo Comprendo" and will be available in January. You can find her playing these songs, and many new ones around the east coast.
