This three-piece math-rock-meets-alternative metal instrumental band supposedly got their name from a bottle of hot sauce. The music is heavy, sludgy, jarring, and melodic all at the same time; comparable to the Melvins colliding with Drive Like Jehu (former Jehu guitarist, Rick Froberg, actually appeared on their debut album). Born circa 1998 in the Arizona desert, the band relocated to San Diego and then ultimately settled in Portland. The Last of the Juanitas have released two full-length albums on Flapping Jet Records, in addition to several 7" singles.
John Schier, the drummer, also plays with Portland band the Cosmos Group. ~ Alexandra Zorn, All Music Guide
Schier is the most recent drummer to admit to being in Trumans Water. He was also a sidelight fixture in the early 90s pre-post sub-underground Green House scene in Arizona where he survived on "smokes and cokes," biding his time imitating Dale Crover drum licks between jam sessions.
Guitarist Bryan Giles now plays in Portland beer-metal champions Red Fang.
