Wonderful band, this Italian outfit! It took the 5-piece until 2001 to get a stable line-up comprising lead singer Ettore De Amicis , guitarists Alessandro Marchetti & Federico Pancotto , bassist Francesco De Simone , and drummer Leopoldo Russo Ceccotti . They then immediately won a contest festival for emerging bands, allowing Kotton F.U.C.K. to record a demo early on. In 2005, the outfit participated in the Avvertenze Musicali contest for upcoming talent held by the city of Rome, and came out top winner among 198 bands, earning themselves the honorary title of "Best Band Of The Lazio Region"! Intensified gigging finally started spreading the band's name around, and eventualy attracted the attention of Heineken DJ Carmela Trivosonno , who offered the band to record an album. Then Christian Ice of the Temple Of Noise offered to co-produce the recordings. The album eventually hit Italian streets in Spring 2006 with a distribution by Ammonia Records & Edel. After a whole 2006 playing live across Italy, in the
spring of 2007 "Stay Beef" has been released in BeNeLux.
Radio broadcasts started happening, positive reviews started getting in, and the band participated in another contest, the Dreamwave Contest 2006 ...yet again winning with flying colours and winning the 2006 title of "Best Band Of The Lazio Region". That victory brought the opportunity for the band to compete in the national contest at the Milanese Zoe Club on July 1 st , last year. And now, thanks to the continuing endeavours of Hardebaran to bring quality "little" bands to OUR region in Europe, we're able to make an objective review of the musical world that is Kotton F.U.C.K. 's!
Because, just what is all the fuzz about? Well, II couldn't begin describing the band's music better than by quoting a passage from the biography we got with our promo copy of the album: "...Authors of a Crossover/ Nu Metal rich in dynamism and original effects, the five members of K.F. blend Rap with heavy and sharp riffs, growling vocals and Funky rhythms, without losing their own identity and their strudy Rock base. The will not to be too serious is obvious, as much as the will to have fun and amuse the audience by adding unexpected melodic openings that however never hold back the intensity and the sane aggression that characterizes the band.". Quite a mouthful, eh? "...blend Rap with Heavy and sharp riffs..." will make you think about Anthrax , most asuredly, but besides the additional clean vocals there IS those growls, which definitively gives the band a face of their own! "...Funky rhythms..."? That kinda goes with the territory, right? "...not too serious...", "...have fun..."? Damn yeah, and how! The boys will use wacky cartoon voices ( Daffy Duck , Bugs Bunny ) both in song intros and halfway through songs, and occasionally the lyrical content will have a comical side to it as well (what to think of songs titled "B.U.R.P." or "I've Got Rubella" ?), or they'll use "scratch" techniques on their singing (oft vocals are a multi-layered thing too). The boys have a strong belief in the strength of their live atmosphere, which they proove by including 3 live tracks (of real good sound quality) to the 11-tracked album. They also close off the album with a great Rap/Funk/Metal/Rock version of "Brimful Of Asha" (which was a smell hit for British outfit Cornershop in 1997). As a whole, this album invites to be listened to over and over again, live tracks and all. Fun to the limit, and if you're into checking these guys' music out, you may wanna check their spot on myspace.com, where you'll find mp3s for 4 songs (the album opening "Welcome" , the misleadingly calm beginning "Silence Of The Waves" , the hilariously funny "B.U.R.P." , and that Cornershop cover). If you're even a little bit into that Rap/Metal Crossover scene, this album is one you MUST NOT miss out on! If I'd had thing great slab last year, I could've included it into that "Best Albums Of 2006"-list of mine...and that's how GOOD the music on this album makes me feel! Here's hoping for a quick coming our way of the sophomore album! (Tony - concreteweb.be)
