Katie Reider 1978 - 2008 If you once found yourself at a concert where roars of laughter accompanied driving melodies and a soaring voice, you might well have been at a Katie Reider show. This folk-rock musician combined John Mayer charisma, with Ellen DeGeneres wit, and topped it all off with a songwriting style reminiscent of an early Shawn Colvin. Her band had a way of delivering the music in a premium package by laying melodies and grooves behind her strong vocals and acoustic guitar.
If you once found yourself at a concert where roars of laughter accompanied driving melodies and a soaring voice, you might well have been at a Katie Reider show. After her first release in 1998, Reider was recognized by the local and national recording industry, winning 5 Cincinnati area music awards, landing several national airing spots on the ABC television network, and independently selling over 10,000 CDs.
The Cincinnati native, who last resided in New Jersey, performed with several national and international touring artists including: Catie Curtis, Melissa Ferrick, Michelle Malone, Antigone Rising, Ember Swift, Edie Carey,Saving Jane, Shawn Mullins, and many more. In a day and age where independent musicians saturate the market in hopes of being discovered, thousands of fans will confess that Katie Reider had that "star quality." You can't help but be drawn into her world, whether it was at a live performance or through the speakers of your stereo.
She will make you laugh, she may even make you cry, but her genuine talent and raw wit will keep you coming back again and again.
Sadly, Katie Reider passed away July 14, 2008 after a two-year battle with a rare myofibro tumor that stole first her voice, then part of her vision, and, in the end, her life. But it never took from her the natural beauty, charm, or love that she shared with us all. Katie was 30 years old. She leaves her partner Karen and their two children to carry her legacy.
