John Nilsen

John Nilsen is one of the most amazing pianists in the Northwest. His music evokes peaceful, yet exciting visions of locations around the world, childhood memories and dreams of the future. He has sold over 700,000 records and continues to produce new sounds, working with a myriad of talented artists. John Nilsen was born in Seattle, Washington in 1956. He currently resides in Oregon with his wife and children. He often performs at many of the community festivals and churches, despite his busy touring schedule throughout the year across the country and sometimes internationally.

John Nilsen's music covers a broad range of styles - jazz, folk, rock, and sometimes his classical piano lessons from youth create a distinct tonal mood to his original music. He also has his own record label, Magic Wing (www.magicwing.com), which he founded in 1986.

John Nilsen has produced several albums over the years, each one with it's own style, yet one can easily recognize his distinct composition of notes and rhythm. He is also a gifted guitarist. His original music has been influenced by the Beatles, Pat Metheny Group, Bruce Cockburn, Neil Young and many traditional hymnals he learned in his youth. He has performed many times at the annual "Ten Grands" benefit concert event in Portland, Oregon, which is organized to support the Snowman Foundation which in turn benefits youth groups and helps purchase pianos for schools and organizations in need.

John Nilsen is a creator, producer and family-man. Most of all, he is a man of integrity and kindness - meeting him in person is a one-of-kind experience!
