Not many musicians can pull off an album about space, time, and theoretical physics, but that's exactly what the Alan Cohen Experience accomplishes with the newest album, Space & Time. While reading Stephen Hawking's ?A Brief History of Time?, Cohen found inspiration in each chapter for a new song, including the introduction and conclusion. Exploring topics such as gravity, magnetism, black holes, atoms, and all the poetic aspects that tie these to our understanding of the world and universe...
Cohen is no stranger to concept albums. His 2007 release, Revolutions, highlighted pop culture's perception of revolutionaries and revolutionary events. The new release finds the Alan Cohen Experience skipping history class for a seat in the science lab, diving into intense topics including songs about Albert Einstein and his contribution to physics, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, Hawking's ?arrows of time? concept and the mathematical relationship between the four major forces. While some of the songs do have a literal interpretation, many will reach fans on another level and they may not even register that it's about theoretical physics.
Co-produced by Cohen himself and Tony Goddess of Papas Fritas, both artists play all the instrumental parts on Space & Time, with the exception of drums. This new album has greatly expanded Cohen's musical talent and shows his versatility in exploring several different areas of songwriting. Showcasing what Cohen believes to be his best work as a songwriter, he's excited to share this new album with fans, as he trusts their minds, ?will be split open and blown apart, because this one is so freaking awesome.?
A mixture of upbeat 70's influenced sing-a-long power-pop wrapped around quirky wit, Space & Time blends a number of genres including rock, funk and pop while solidly rooting itself in the anti-folk movement. Guitar, keys and bass flow together seamlessly mixing a splash of blues inside the rock element, all while keeping with the theme. Cohen's different approach to music, through the juxtaposition of smart subject matter and light-hearted catchy melodies appealing to the intellectual who dares to be different.
Collaborating with Brooklyn Producer, Roger Greenawalt (The Pierces, Ben Kweller, Nils Lofgren) on his self-titled EP and Eat the Peace, the Alan Cohen Experience earned praise from PopMatters and Relix, while his attention grabbing video, ?The Obama Groove?, was featured on CNN's "This Week in Politics" and The Guardian. Alan Cohen's live shows are a multimedia experience incorporating elements of his studio and video work with engaging the audience. While each show and each city brings a new experience to the fans, one thing remains a constant, when Alan's on stage, his trusty megaphone is never far from his side.
Alan Cohen Experience has a worldwide following, including fans in Europe, Asia, and South America, and there's no doubt that Space & Time's universal concepts will appeal to fans all over the planet when it is released.
