Its not hard being the only female in the crew, verbally shrugs Natoya Jha Jha Handy, the latest draft pick on Dip Sets roster. Its just like a challenge. The 21-year old Miami natives nonchalance can credited to the cosigning of Diplomat heads Killa Cam and Jim Jones. Blessings aside, Jha wants everyone to know that though currently still an unsigned artist, she has whats needed to soar in this game.
Jha Jha was already a microphone fiend before she became a teen. Thats why, despite building a 3.8 GPA while attending Florida A&M University as a business major, her childhood addiction sent her AWOL. I plan to go back to and get my degree, she claims. [Music] is really what I wanted to do. I couldn't take no more, so she just made a flight to New York when her classes were out.
A single Black female residing in the Rotten Apple, Jha was equipped solely with a demo and an address list of record labels. A mistake in locale led to a chance meeting with Dip affiliates, who in turn introduced her to the rest of the Harlem squad. "I'm seeing Cam walk by, I'm seeing Jimmy walk by, and I'm like: Wow, is this really happening?" she remembers. "I'm saying is this really happening cause I got close before, but never that close" she says. After an impromptu listening session, Jha's Southern twang eventually became Dipset certified but it took a minute. "I'm gonna be real, she begins. [Initially] Killa was very standoffish. But I(Jha) made them love me like they had no choice."
The Citrus State spitter proved she was invaluable. Displaying a knack for songwriting, she crafted "Get From Round Me", a jolted cut from "Diplomatic Immunity 2" that features Cam and Juelz Santana, and her latest effort (featuring P. Diddy and Paul Wall), "What You Been Drankin On" from Jim Jones latest LP "Harlem: Diary of a Summer".
