For those not yet exposed to the acoustic stylings of McAvoy, Jess originated from the Perth, Western Australian incubator, where developing exceptional musicians seems to be in the water. Exports from the region include John Butler, The Waifs, and Little Birdy. Playing in pubs in Australia since she was 16, Jess emerged as the winner of Joy 98, and soon attracted rave reviews for her emotive and energetic performances and melodic hook-laden indie/pop tunes.

Multiple WAMI (Western Australian Music Industry Awards) Nominations followed and her song ?Girl? was one of the tracks on the 99 Kiss My WAMI cd compilation.
That same year Jess Produced and released her debut 7 track mini-album ?Release? to wide acclaim and high rotation on local independent radio.
Since relocating to Melbourne in ?99, Jess has played a heap of well received gigs, toured with Ani di Franco & The Waifs and released two further eps - 2001's ?Four Short Stories? which garnered Triple J and Rage airplay, and her limited numbered edition cd ?Light Wait? in late 2002.
Other supports include New Zealand's Brooke Fraser, Ember Swift, Clare Bowditch and the Feeding set, Pete Murray and Kate Ceberano.
In 2004 Jess released ?En Masse?, to glowing reviews across Australia, and strong support from national and local radio stations.
The songs were recorded in Perth, Canberra, and vareous places in Melbourne to allow Jess to gather different artists from all over the country. Including Zeke from ?Full Scale? Paul Greene, Marty Brown ( ?Art Of Fighting? ?Clare Bowditch and the Feeding set? ?Sodastream?) Emma Heeney (Gorgeous) just to name a few.
Triple J airplay and more recently Nova rotation (vocalist; Microphonic's ?Better than this?) has consolidated her ever growing legion of devotees.
Now, just returned from a slew of shows in Los Angeles and New York, which included shows at the Bitter End, CBGB's, Arlene's Grocery and the Knitting Factory, Jess is in pre production for her highly anticipated follow up album, to be recorded with Aria Award winner Marty Brown.
To this day, Jess is an independent self managed artist.
