Here & Now

There is more than one artist who has used the name 'Here & Now': Here & Now are an influential English Psychedelic/space punk band, formed in early 1974. They have close connections with the band Gong and in 1977/1978 worked with Gong's Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth under the name Planet Gong, which released one (live) album "Floating Anarchy 1977" and one single "Opium for the People". Twink Malone and Kif-Kif were respectively the original synthi player and drummer with Here & Now in 1974 and Steffe joined them, along with Keith the bass, at the Watchfield free festival of August 1975.

Twink Malone and Kif-Kif were respectively the original synthi player and drummer with Here & Now in 1974 and Steffe joined them, along with Keith the bass, at the Watchfield free festival of August 1975. They were known for jamming, which they did exclusively, as they believed in the purity of creating music "in the moment" and didn't have rehearsals or songs. They would only play their music at free shows and free festivals.

There have been many changes of personnel over the years, yet the defining moments in the formation of the band's musical character came with the 1975 - 1977 line up of Kif Kif (Drums and Vocals), Twink (Synthesiser, and not the same Twink who was in the Pink Fairies) , Steffe (Guitar and Vocals) and Keith the Bass (Bass Guitar).Twink was replaced on synthesizer by Gavin da Blitz in 1977. In 1981 Steffe left, to be replaced by Deano Ferrari and the band continued under the leadership of Keith the Bass with a variety of drummers, recording albums: Fantasy Shift; Coaxed out from Oxford; Theatre and Been and Gone amongst others. This incarnation split in 1986 due to record company troubles and the Stonehenge Free festival getting trashed by police. Fortunately, they reformed a year later in 1987. Gavin left Here & Now finally in 1990 to be replaced by Andy Roid. Steffe returned along with Drummer Steve Cassidy. This line-up recorded the awesome 'UFOasis' album.

Keith the Bass and Steffe still perform as Here & Now with Joie Hinton on synths and Merv Pepler on Drums (both from Ozric Tentacles/Eat Static), allegedly they are currently writing new material (2007). A line-up featuring Kif Kif, Twink and Steffe also currently perform improvised music, a la mid-seventies Here & Now, under the name "Ici Maintenants" (aka. Easy Maintenance).

Hopefully someone else can provide info about the Danish band that produced 'BLT'. This page has nothing to do with any album by Oasis or America.
