Based in Leeds, Hayashi have gained a reputation for playing high energy dance sets influenced by drum and bass, breakbeat and trip-hop styles. Drummer/producer Gideon Woods and Bassist/producer Ben Coleman started Hayashi as a studio project in 2003 and since then this partnership has developed to include other Leeds based musicians: Darren Ibbetson (Keys, Samples, Guitar) Ana Robinson, D. Sojourn and Mwen (vocals).
The technical abilities of drummer Gideon Woods, whose skills continue to be highly acclaimed by those who experience the live sets, provide the basis for performances of drum beats and rhythms that would more usually be confined to computer programmed and/or sequenced drum loops. Hayashi play it live. This alongside the big bass grooves, other worldly electric noise and melodies and the three part vocal harmonies gives Hayashi their own particular sound that 'will make you dance while breaking your heart as the walls run with sweat.' (Sandman Magazine) With a a strong DIY ethic, Hayashi record and release their material on their own label - Moonrock LS6 recordings .
