Following the musical path first walked by Jos? Luis Cort?s & NG La Banda in the late 1980s (which gave birth to the new Cuban dance music concept known as "Timba" to some or "Cuban Salsa" to others) is the group called Havana Power Band. This new ensemble of timberos is comprised of mostly former members of another very popular Cuban band called Dan Den (and led by Juan Carlos Alfonso). The combination of its youthful, high-voltage modern sound with invigorating compositions and arrangements is what sets this entity apart from most of the competition.
The percussive drive of Jorge Vinent, alias "Yoyi" (timbal) and Augusto Lage (congas), further enhances the group's rhythm section that is commanded by pianist Randol Garcia and bassist/musical director Ra?l Cabrera. Fronting the band on vocals is the very capable Michel Calvo surrounded by a one-of-a-kind powerhouse brass section. Standouts include Qu? Nos Pas?, Elegu?, and Nada de Nada. If you like timba, you'll enjoy Havana Power Band.
