Greg White Hunt of Bamboo Gardens and Music began his musical journey as a classically trained French Hornist in the late 1960's and 1970's performing with ?American Youth Preforms Orchestra? under the direction of Carman Dragon. Greg received a bachelor of music degree from the University of Tennessee and performed in Clarence Brown Theater, Symphonic Orchestras, Woodwind Quintets, Brass Choirs, Concert Band, Stage Band, and classic rock bands.
Greg studied jazz in New Orleans in the late 1970's performing on French horn and bass guitar. In the 1980's he began studying medicinal plants and their uses. In the 1980's he became interested in bamboo musical instruments and music therapy. He made his first concert-pitched bamboo flute in the 1980's and has handcrafted several thousand over the years. Forty-two species of bamboo were planted and his company Bamboo Alchemy Instruments was formed. The bamboo plantings grew into flutes of all types. A student of ethnobotany and ethnomusicology, Greg continues to combine both studies, composing world music featuring his original compositions and his own handcrafted bamboo flutes. A multi-instrumentalist performer, his original recordings feature all types of bamboo flutes, French horn, classical guitar and keyboard. Enter the Oriente CD, released in 1995 was totally inspired by the upper Amazonian rainforest of Ecuador and Quichua tribe.
Greg has released 6 solo CD's and performed/presented his original music at hundreds of fine arts shows and performance venues. Greg's music is appreciated internationally with sales of flutes and CD's. Located in Cohutta Georgia, tours of Bamboo Gardens and Music are available by appointment.
