Months of hard work, rehearsals, and late night songwriting sessions/recordings have paid off for Great Jones. In August of 2001, Great Jones released their independent release, Standing Room Only. It was voted into the prestigious Virgin Recommends program. Virgin Recommends is a program where Virgin Megastore employees vote on the best new bands that have yet to show up on the public's radar and pledge their support. Some past winners have included Pete Yorn, Queens Of The Stone Age, Jimmy Eat World, and Ryan Adams. Great Jones was one of only 16 bands (out of 260 submissions) named to take part in the program. They received the second highest amount of votes, just behind fellow New Yorkers The Strokes.
The band has developed a strong New York following, which has earned them the opportunity to open for such artists as Cheap Trick, Tonic, Jesse Malin, The Mooney Suzuki, Stroke 9 and The Badlees. Great Jones have also been a radio staple on college radio as well as a mainstream stations such as KROCK (New York), Y100 (Philadelphia), WLIR (Long Island), WSTW (DE) and were one of the top 10 most requested band on the XM Satelite Radio show Unsigned.
At the moment, the band is currently promoting their new CD 'Seven Days From Saturday', which is available at your favorite record store. The CD was released in October 2003 with a kickoff party that was one of the many highlights of the CMJ Music Marathon.
Their live shows are full of raw electricity that will make your heart pound, your feet tap and if you don't leave a singing a GJ song, then you were never really there at all!
