Gravity Wave is Ken Farrell's excuse to do what he wants. First he made an electro-pop dance record with a Playstation video game. That stone killed a few birds simultaneously. Suddenly, there was no more carrying amplifiers to shows or concern for playing an instrument, even though Farrell is a multi-instrumentalist. Gravity Wave live shows became more about Ken and the audience, and soon the audience became part of the show. A twelve-year old tambourine player named Tom became the right hand man on stage, hustling his way into the hearts of confused and delighted partiers with every performance.
Founded in November 2006, Gravity Wave shows have exploded in popularity by establishing a reputation for never delivering the same show twice. Incorporating elements of fashions shows, videos, guest performers, dancers, actors and false idols, one can never be sure what to expect.
What makes it so strange is the source. Ken Farrell grew up in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada and focused much of his energy on playing hockey. While on scholarship to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, he suffered a career ending injury. Returning to Canada, he settled in Toronto to study radio and television arts at Ryerson University, but it didn't take. He found himself spending most of his free time writing songs, a craft encouraged by his late mother and one that she herself had pursued throughout her life.
Ken traded writing television scripts for music and co-founded the indie-rock band Clementine (the legal addendum ?xo? was added later) with some friends. Two years after inception, the band was signed to now defunct Sunday League Records and headed out on their first tour. But collaboration, compromise and other commitments slowed the bands ability to pursue the principal songwriters often-bizarre impulses, so Ken made the decision to start Gravity Wave and become a front man.
The rest is mostly just details. "
