In today's music world, it is becoming easier and easier to slap a label on any band and make it seem to fit. From garage rock to emo to indie, many groups are willing to adopt a music-making "formula" in order to find acceptance with concert goers and radio listeners. Gazillion Isn't the type to follow the crowd. Taking a decisively original approach to their music, the band has transcended genres and styles to arrive at a sound that is all their own.
Established in the Fall of 2003, Gazillion is comprised of four musicians who are passionate about all aspects of their music. Michael Barthman (percussion); Marshall Fassino (bass, vocals); Simon Fuerstenberg (lead vocals, piano, guitar); and John McConville (lead guitar, vocals) make up the strikingly original group who, in the summer of 2004, recorded "growth," a self produced record that showcases the band's originality. The album was released in the winter of the same year. With the exception of a few local record stores, the album is sold almost exclusively at shows, and thanks to their soulful, ear-catching, and energetic live performances, the record has continued to fly out of their hands.
The rich and powerful sound of this band is unique. Curiously interesting melodies backed by solid, deep grooves dressed up with lofty complementary guitar parts make the music of Gazillion interesting, suprisingly catchy, and infectious. The lyrics, however, are the icing on the cake; telling stories, and reciting prose that is profound yet humble, interesting yet subtle. Always thoughtful, intelligent, and deeply visceral, Gazillion is suprisingly unique in their aproach to sound. the group is currently promoting their album "Growth" in and around the Twin Cities area. They are also working dligiently on their currently untitled new release which is being recorded with seasoned producer Scott Jarrett.
The album is expected to be finished in early 2006.
