Gaia Consort is a Seattle-based band lead by singer/songwriter Christopher Bingham. They are a self-described "psychedelic folk rock band," but it is hard to peg them into any one style. They seem to move effortlessly from one genre to another, drawing from jazz, celtic music, 70's psychedelic rock, and whatever else the song requires. The poetic lyrics touch on topics such as religion, politics, polyamory, and environmentalism, but at its heart the music is a celebration of life.
The band adds guest performers more often than not, but the core band at this time (2006) consists of guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, cello, violin, and viola, with Christopher Bingham and Sue Tinney on vocals.
The band has its own label, Suddenly Naked Arts Collective. All of the albums thus far have been funded by donations. They can be contacted through their web site, http://www.gaiaconsort.com .
