FARCHILD is the kaleidoscopic seattle-based music entity founded in 2007 by multi-faceted vocalist, producer, songwriter, & instrumentalist, Jane Collymore from 2008 to 2009. Influenced by a vast array of genres which include rock, electronica, industrial, folk, metal, hip hop, classical, world, Jane C blends dark melodies, unapologetic lyrics, and a sophisticated songwriting sensibility with acoustic and electronic elements to create FARCHILD's genre-defying sound. Jane C's influences include Nine Inch Nails, Alanis Morissette, KoRn, Linkin Park, and Michael Jackson.
The FARCHILD debut,"Chivalry Has Died", is out now and sold on Jance C's site, iTunes, and CDBaby.
Fueled by a desire to combat "watered-down music with no substance", FARCHILD lyrics cover a broad spectrum of topics ranging from emotional neglect and candid social reflection to insomnia-induced paranoia...serving up a quirky mixture of Folk/ Grunge guitar, rhythmically haunting classical piano, swirling orchestral elements, and glitchy electronics to forge a sound that can best be described as 'playfully sinister'. Jane C, responsible for all FARCHILD production & engineering, distinguishes herself as a true producer and intrepid musical force to be reckoned with in an industry overrun by label-cultivated pop tartlets. Following a tumultuous year-long stint with a record label that ended in 2007 and intent on preserving the integrity of her project, she also retains control of all FARCHILD business endeavors, acting as the manager of her own independent record label, NeoSound Entertainment LLC....FARCHILD is poised to leave a unique mark on the music industry.
A 3-Time All?American for the Florida Gators and former member of the USA National Volleyball Team, Jane C's introduction to the music industry was a rather untraditional one. Born Jane Collymore on Sept. 30, 1984 in Los Angeles, she grew up on classical piano lesson, performing at Pepperdine University, and founded her eclectic music tastes during childhood, citing MOZART, ENYA, JEWEL, THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, and MICHAEL JACKSON as her earliest influences. At age 10, her family relocated to Colorado, a move that would ultimately result in persistent bigotry and isolation for years to come. Alienated from her peers and understimulated in school, Collymore found solace in the words & voices of frontmen for KORN, DEFTONES, LINKIN PARK, singer-songwriter ALANIS MORISSETTE, and later NINE INCH NAILS' TRENT REZNOR, whose self-contained artist/ producer talents would prove to be a pivotal source of inspiration for her.
Highly competitive in high school sports, she received a volleyball scholarship for college. Seeking creative release, Collymore picked up the guitar at school in Florida, started writing songs, and began producing music in her dorm, quietly compiling an extensive repertoire and laying the foundation for what would become her signature experimental style of production. After training with the USA National Volleyball Team for a year, Collymore made the choice to forgo both a potential spot on the 2008 Olympic Team & a lucrative career in professional volleyball overseas, and moved to Seattle to pursue music in November of 2006. As ?Jane C' she began performing as a solo act in acoustic venues, a dynamic frontwoman with startling range within the rock community, and as an experimental newcomer online, where her music was beginning to garner interest from audiences as diverse as her sound.
Offered a record deal during Spring of 2007 by a Seattle indie label, she signed and began working with the likes of hybrid artist/ producer, Mike Singleton (better known as OUTTASITE, protege of Grammy-award winning artist/ producer SIR MIX A LOT and partner of THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA frontman, CHRIS BALLEW, forming the THE FEELINGS HIJACKERS), sound engineer KEVIN GARDNER, Outtasite metal guitarist JOEL DAVILLA, and finally SIR MIX A LOT as part of a guest feature on the 2008 Outtasite record: 'Tequila Stepchild'. At the end of 2007, Collymore parted ways with her record label, choosing to take firm control of all creative and business matters herself. Within the constraints of her own label, NeoSound Entertainment LLC, began performing under the name "FARCHILD" and recording her debut CD.
