Eternal Joy official web Frank and Happy had played together in earlier days, and were looking for members to a new band. In a coffee break at Oslo Lydskole (school of "sound") Frank overheard ?ystein playing the piano. He liked what he heard, so they started talking music. It was soon clear that their musical interests as well as what they liked (and disliked) was very much the same. Later, teaming up with Happy and still talking music, it was inevitable that the sound of this new band was going to be influenced by 80's alternative rock and synth sound, which they all loved.

He liked what he heard, so they started talking music. It was soon clear that their musical interests as well as what they liked (and disliked) was very much the same. Later, teaming up with Happy and still talking music, it was inevitable that the sound of this new band was going to be influenced by 80's alternative rock and synth sound, which they all loved. Including a drum machine, Little Drummer Boy, the line-up was set. This was late 1994.

1995 went on with rehearsals and songwriting, before Eternal Joy (well, at that time they had another name; something resembling a Cure song) had their live debut in April 1996, playing two nights in a row at the same venue. Since then, among others, they have gigged Gotham Nights three times (Norway's premiere Goth club), supported Faith and the Muse, as well as Christian Death, and played at festivals both in Norway and abroad.

1997 saw their first demo, which was an eight track cassette recorded rapidly during two days. It received good reviews, both from magazines and those who got a copy of it, and today it's almost out of stock (really a valuable collector's item...)

In the spring of 1998 Eternal Joy started to record their first CD, finally to be titled "Arrogance & Charm", containing 9 tracks; six new ones and three re-recordings from the demo. Release date was September 24th, and after one week two hundred copies were sold, even though they could only be bought at Shadowland's recordshop in Oslo. The record has been reviewed in numerous magazines, and they have been overwhelming (read a couple of them in the reviews section at this website).

Eternal Joy went back to the studio in the spring of 1999 to record three new songs. One of them is featured on the compilation album "Sex, Drugs & EBM" which was be released in february 2000. In October 1999 they recorded three more songs, and these tracks alltogether was released the 27th of October as a mini album called "Afterglow".

Foreign interests for the band have been good, and they have been airplayed at various alternative/goth radioshows in Germany, Sweden, Belgium, UK, Portugal(!), and in the US.

Currently Eternal Joy is working on some new exciting material to be fitted in the tracking-list for the forthcoming concerts and a new album, which is intended to be released during 2003. A demo of the new track "Cold Blood" has been recorded, and it gives a very promising impression of the fortcoming album.
