1. Early 60's/70's progressive rock band with heavy vocals and organ. 2. EDGEWOOD formed sometime last century but the current line-up is the most stable and productive to date. Phil and Dave had played together in various bands since the late eighties but, when Gonzo joined in 2003, they found the vocalist for which they had long been searching. His searing rendition of Iron Maiden's 'Killers', at the band's first rehearsal, took everyone by surprise.
"Gonz was fuckin' great!" Phil recalls, "The first time we played 'Killers', he totally blew us away - made all the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end! We were well impressed!"
The band played various gigs (in various guises) in and around Portsmouth, including a weekend at the 2004 Portsmouth and Southsea Show. A number of drummers came and went in that time, until Dave responded to an ad he found in the local paper. Jim went along for a jam that weekend and has been slowly destroying everyone's hearing ever since!
"He's a creature of simple needs," says Dave, "He hits things!"
The band's self-produced album, 'A Chemically Induced Delusion', is a collection of 18 original songs covering a broad spectrum of rock styles. They also have a live album recorded at the Joiners Arms, Southampton on December 29th 2006 and titled, oddly enough, 'Live at The Joiners'.
EDGEWOOD are currently writing and recording material for a second album (provisionally titled 'Burn Witch Burn') and are always looking for new audiences on whom to inflict themselves.
The band has always met adversity with good humour (and, when this fails, with alcohol, controlled substances and/or intense therapy).
The band's history is littered with stories of human misery; alcoholism and drug abuse, rehab, cheating partners, bestiality, mental health problems, police arrests, suicides and murder. Still, as it's not this band's history we need not dwell on it.
This band's history, if not quite so tragic, is no less colourful and will undoubtedly be published in an official biography some day!
