The kind of music you might have heard hundreds of years ago at a Scottish wedding, ceilidh, or around the campfire of a Highland raiding party
Bio / Background
Welcome to our third cd. On this recording you will find what we call 'Gaelic Bagpipe Music' - not the refined playing of a modern pipe band, but our own version of these ancient, tribal sounds. WICKED TINKERS perform the kind of music you might have heard hundreds of years ago at a Scottish wedding, ceilidh, or around the campfire of a Highland raiding party. We blend the emotion and power of the Great Highland Bagpipe with the pounding of raw tribal rhythms and on this cd add the haunting tones of the Corn na hÉireann- the Bronze Age Irish Horn- a sound lost for millennia. We play the music of the Scottish Highlands, spicing it with the Celtic tunes of Ireland and the many lands graced by the Gaelic people

Wicked Tinkers - Great musicians, but not Gaelic musicSeamus45 wrote on July 13, 2008
To begin, the Tinkers are fine musicians and showmen. (I knew Aaron many years ago.) However, I would classify this as New Age - Rock - Whatever - "Celtic" - there is minus zero correlation (other than the basic tunes themselves) between this very showy, highly choreographed, and modern Rock and Roll inspired performances and Gaelic music, and as a Gaelic speaker with 50 years of experience, research, and a degree in the field, I believe I know Gaelic music when I hear it. While the didgeridoo certainly has an archaic sound, it isn't the archaic Gaelic sound - it is the archaic Aborigine sound. (Though I once heard Altan do an interesting version of Caileach an Airgead using one.) As to Irish Bronze Age horns - interesting experiment, but nobody has the least idea of what the music sounded like, and they did not share the field with pipes. They belong to a far earlier period. This is definitely not traditional (or even "pre-traditional" as Aaron called it in an interview). It is what one of the other chaps in the band said about it in the same interview - what Led Zeppelin would have sounded like 500 years ago. As I was not a fan of Led Zeppelin 30 years ago, I am hardly interested in a 500 year old version. On the other hand, tastes (fortunately) differ, and I would say if you enjoy them for their great energy and musicianship, then "Rock on!" - just be aware that they are in no way traditional.
