A little old-timey, a little bit early-Nashville, this all-female quartet delivers the musical goods to put a tear in your eye and a drink in your glass.
Bio / Background
Harlan Howard, a well-known Nashville songwriter is quoted as saying, “Country music is three chords and the truth”.
The Whoreshoes, an upcoming country music band would agree.
The energetic quartet, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, scorn "contemporary country”; instead they celebrate the roots of country western music. The truth is in their contagious brand of traditional-with-a-twist country, and it's getting them offers to perform all over the West Coast.
Camilla, Joni, Lala and Emily come from varied backgrounds of music, having played punk, folk, R&B and rock. But their mutual love for the time-honored songs of American old-time music and early honky-tonk country, is the bond that brought these musicians originally together.
The group craft charming and upbeat country music. Original tunes such as “Well-dressed Honky-Tonk Man, “Race to the Bottom”, “Asheville”, and “All the Reasons”, are just a few of the many original tunes they perform.
↓ more ↓Mixed in the set, are obscure classics from The Stanley Brothers, Hank Williams, The Charlie Daniels Band, and The Carter Family to name a few.
Multi-instrumentalism is a trademark of the band. Banjo, fiddle, guitar, lap steel, mandolin, ukulele, honky-tonk piano, accordion, washboard and spoons are all featured in their music. Added with their sweet harmonies, The Whoreshoes evoke the best of a bygone era and bring that boot stomping, hollering spirit direct to you.
From their performance at the 2004 Gay Rodeo in La Honda, CA to the popular San Francisco music venue, The 12 Galaxies, this all-female ensemble is comfortable performing outdoor festivals, busking on San Francisco streets, to raising a ruckus in roadhouses.
"We do everything from bars to barbeques. If the Whoreshoes are there, it's always a 'ho-down'." Scrappy and sweet, these women fight for your heart.
And for their place at the bar.
