A young, energetic trio from Baltimore with fun, intelligent lyrics, creative arrangements, and harmonies to die for.
Bio / Background
This three-part-harmony-singer-songwriter-adult-alternative-contemporary-americana-folk-rock group from Baltimore packs a surprise punch with an absolutely unique vocal blend, literate songwriting, and mercilessly charming stage presence. Vance Gilbert says We're About 9 is "Excellent...some kind of a cross between the Kingston Trio, The Four Tops and the Story!".
The buzz is everywhere. We're About 9 has dared to take on the music world with a completely unique sound and absolutely distinct songs to one big surpise: success! In upcoming months We're About 9 will perform at the prestigious Falcon Ridge Folk Festival New Artist Showcase, The Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, and Baldwin's Station; and they've already shared the stage with The Nields, The Kennedy's, Groovelily, Chris Rosser, and Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer. In 2000 Brian Gundersdorf, Katie Graybeal and Pat Klink became We're About 9.
↓ more ↓By 2001 they had a first album, and by the end of the year they were nominated for two Washington Area Music Awards: "Best New Artist" and "Best Contemporary Folk Group." Just two and half years after meeting each other this group has accomplished all of the above and has finished their second cd, which was released at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in July.
So what can you expect from a We're About 9 show? A complete front to back performance of quirky, passionate, fun and complex songs with three bold voices blending in absolutely distinctive ways. The WA9 harmony blend has drawn comparisons to Crosby, Stills and Nash-and certainly represents other influences such as The Nields and Cry, Cry, Cry. You'll hear acoustic guitars, electric bass, electric guitar, and sometimes piano. And you'll get a complete, attention gripping show.
