Bio / Background
Toronto based singer/songwriter Wendy Leung brings her music to CD Baby for the first time with her sophomore album This Time.
Having been classically trained on the piano since the age of four, music has always played a major role in Wendy's life. "I remember writing lyrics to a song I played at a music festival at the age of five or six and showing it to the adjudicator, hoping for some feedback." While a far cry from true songwriting, a seed had already been planted in her head.
Through her teenaged years, Wendy dabbled in lyric-writing, but stuck mostly to singing favourite pop songs at the top of her lungs. An early favourite was Mariah Carey, whose music taught her to "exercise [her] vocal range." As her musical tastes matured somewhat, she began listening to Canadian singer/songwriters like Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk and Emm Gryner, as well as bands like Our Lady Peace. Recognizing songwriting as a skill she wanted to develop, Wendy began to write songs in 1998.
