Wanaku draws inspiration from indigenous/tribal/aboriginal music from all over the world. His unique finger-picking style on the guitar, adds a new sonic perspective to each song.
Bio / Background
WANAKU was born in the British Cameroons. A descendant from the Kom Kingdom tribe, he grew up on a coffee farm in the West African grass fields of Adamawa, a region densely concentrated with several tribes. Wanaku was exposed to the culture of many of the tribes in this region through competitive music, dance and arts festivals.
Looking beyond Wanaku's current CD release, "AfrikanGuitarStrophy!!! he hopes to set up an ArtistHelp organization in Sub-Saharan Africa that would aid creative artists to organize their projects in a more productive way. Building on that, he dreams of starting a music school in the Kom Kingdom and forming two youth choral groups: The Shining Teeth Boyz' Choir of Ibalikumato and a Girl's Choir - The Highland Angels of Boyo - whose mission would be to perform and preserve original tribal songs.
Artist's Statement:
Drawing on a culturally rich past and passionate vision for the future, Wanaku nevertheless lives in the moment. "The show must go on".
