Mix Paul Simon's Experimental Nature and Phrasing with Leo Kottke-esque Guitar and Nickel Creek's Bluegrass-i-ness... and lots of originality.
Bio / Background
Michigan-based Singer-Songwriter Dan Vaillancourt has been described as a first-rate storyteller, a virtuosic guitar player, and an energetic performer whose energy exudes from the stage. He has performed in hundreds of venues (Including venues such as the legendary CBGB's in NYC and Eddie's Attic in Atlanta!) covering almost half of the states in the US. Despite some extraordinary accomplishments, Dan is still a down to earth guy and enjoys a good cup of coffee and growing tomatoes for his homemade salsa.
Dan Vaillancourt is known as the Funktified Folkman. Funktified Folk can be hard to pinpoint because it draws from a large variety of styles and influences. Dan listens to such a wide variety of music that he was recently described as "hyper-eclectic." By drawing influence from a large range of musicians such as Paul Simon, Victor Wooten, and Bobby Mcferrin... the music stays fresh and each song has a unique stylistic twist to it.
He graduated with a B.S.
↓ more ↓degree from Central Michigan University in Cultural Anthropology & World Religion. His favorite thing to do is to drive around the country playing his 10-string guitar for people like you.
QUOTES:
"...an entity all its own." -Yvonne Glasgow (Music Review)
"...an ear of maturity and a knack for entertaining folks with his funky folk style." -Smother.net
Though he performs alone, Michigan-based singer-songwriter Dan Vaillancourt doesn't stick to one sound: With just his voice and custom 10-string guitar, Vaillancourt jumps genres from song to song--and even mid-tune. The easiest descriptor may be folk-funk, but that fails to account for chatty spoken-word bits, hip-hop goofs, and straight-ahead pop songs." -The Onion (May 2003)
"Dan Vaillancourt does more with just an acoustic guitar than most three piece bands can accomplish."
- Leo Zaccari, 90.5FM The Night , Lincroft, NJ
"...The Jimi Hendrix of Folk!"
- Steve Wieske (fan)
"Dan Vaillancourt sets a standard for style that is immeasurable by ANYBODY in the music business. Funk, Folk, or otherwise, I have no doubt that Dan Vaillancourt will be heard from in the future."
- Jes Bouchard (fan)
"I think the funky stuff is amazing-two of Dan's big strengths as a performer are his non-stop positive energy and rhythmic virtuosity."
- Pat Wictor (Singer-Songwriter)
"...Irresistibly catchy and amazingly unique!" -Cassie Irwin (fan)
