Progressive electronic rock with echoes of Vangelis, Yanni, and Larry Fast
Bio / Background
The Man:
The driving force behind this unique Electronic Music project is composer/showman David Sweet. David is originally from the Central New York area and currently resids in the Southern Tier of NY State.
In 1980, David tragically lost 4 fingers on his right hand due to an industrial accident. Many keyboard players would have considered this to be the end of their career, but David's continued determination to create music and deep desire to perform prevailed.
For the past 15 years, Dave has been writing electronic music and experimenting with new sounds and concepts. The space-age music has captured the interest of local people as well as the local planetarium. He has done several shows at the Link Planetarium in Binghamton NY, which were very well received.
The Music:
The music is simplicity itself. David uses modified western culture music idioms, as well as free form modes to articulate his musical ideas.
↓ more ↓Experimentally, sounds are generated and used to punctuate the music or are realized as unique new voices. However, the core of the music stems from vintage synths and the warmth they produce. Conceptually, the music supports the U.S. Space program, deep space exploration, space art, and a hands-on approach to the physical and technical sciences. Dave draws from all of these areas for creative input and reflect these ideas in the music.
David's music is unique and not just "spacemusic". Original compositions are inventive, yet simple and have an infectious "hook" people can't quite put their finger on. Influences include: Kitaro, Kraftwerk, Yanni, Tomita and many other electronic music veterans. Dave's approach and blending of digital and analog sounds make Dave's music a listening experience.
Dave's philosophy is that simple is best and he proves this by applying a simple approach to the songs he writes. Lavish orchestration and integral strength does not need to be complex. Pure sound plus pure power, combined with a sensational stage presentation, showcases the music as well as the musician. Combining these concepts into the realm of magick and the mystical atmosphere of New Age makes the music a unique experience, where musical reality and fantasy are one. Currently, Dave is also keyboardist with the post-progressive/world fusion band ANUBIS SPIRE.
