electronic space pop reminiscent of melodic, early-90's idm
Bio / Background
submodern is dallas and art, two friends who have been performing live electronic music together for several years. their music -- melodic, moody, and spacey with bloops, bleeps and beats -- has drawn comparisons to other melodic electronic artists such as orbital, black dog, and early autechre while still sounding uniquely submodern. their live sets are known for their free flowing nature, somewhat of a rarity in modern electronic music, with no predetermined order or length to the songs and no single computer sequencer controlling everything.
"object oriented mood management" is their first album and was written in the style of the early 90s ambient and idm records that influenced them so much. the music is simple, emotional, and beautiful, filled with warm, playful synthesizer melodies cascading over quirky electronic beats. the production style is simple and straightforward, allowing the music to speak for itself without relying on tricks or gimmicks.
↓ more ↓the songs vary from upbeat to introspective, and nostalgically draw from the best of older electronic music while still sounding fresh and new.
this is a good album for long drives, late nights, and early morning sunrises. it is also melodic enough to appeal to a lot of people who don't normally listen to electronic music. a number of people have told us they just leave it going on repeat in their cd player and listen to it all day.
highlights include the pensive "honeysuckle context", the slinky "bubblepop funk", and the blissful chill of "lemon zen".
