Refreshing, original and soulful. Instant good mood provider. The mind of Stevie Wonder, the energy of Jamiroquai, and the sensuality of Norah Jones.
Bio / Background
Born in Paris into a fertile musical environment, Sophie was fed with her family's impressive record collection. Raised with Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind and Fire in the background, she developed a taste for funky rhythms and soulful melodies. She started her musical education at the age five and quickly became a brilliant classical pianist. On the other hand, music theory was not the most exciting thing in the world to her. She learned by herself the magic of improvisation on her father's synthesizers. Soon enough, her first compositions flourished at the age of eleven. A few years later, she experiences a musical shock: contemporary soul music. From there, she adamantly followed the evolution of artists such as D'Angelo, Maxwell, Rahsaan Patterson and Jamiroquai among others. These influences helped Sophie develop her own musical personality and opened new doors to her creativity.
↓ more ↓Still a teenager, she even meets Swedish soul act Stephen Simmonds, French artist Sinclair, hip hop stars Mc Solaar and Oxmo Puccino. A huge source of inspiration for a young musician, isn't it?
THE AMERICAN DREAM, FRENCHIE IN THE US
Inspired by a strong taste of adventure, Sophie decides to leave Paris and her family to settle down in Boston MA to study at the renowned Berklee College of Music. After auditioning and being granted a scholarship, Sophie starts a brand new life... Besides theoretical and technical education, she begins to seriously develop her vocal performance skills. Furthermore, she takes the time to start practicing several new instruments such as bass, drums, percussion and guitar. While in the United States, Sophie also falls in love with Gospel music. Sooner than expected, she becomes a part of the Berklee Reverence Gospel Choir and with its director Dennis Montgomery III, she creates the band RAMDAM, which toured in France in 2000 and cheered up hearts all around the country.
SHARING, A PRIORITY. DELIL'ALIVE.
Today, Sophie DELILA is an accomplished artist with a strong stage experience build upon her New York scenic life (S.O.B's, Blue Note, B.B King's, The Knitting Factory, etc.). Additionally, Sophie never forgets where she comes from and continues to go back to Paris for performances at venue like La Scene Bastille, Le Cithea, and Le Reservoir. Her audience, ranging from soul music aficionados to pop idols fan and reggae roots specialists, are always ready to attend the show. Once on stage, the songs take a brand new dimension. Sophie's charisma, drive, musicality and unique voice become, indeed, undeniable. Multi-instrumentalist, Sophie doesn't hesitate to solo a little Benson'ish' on her guitar, or to through heavy funky vocoder lines out of her little vintage synthesizer...
ALL YOURS, THE ALBUM
From these numerous performances and experiences between Europe and NYC, was born "All Yours", a smart mix of Stevie Wonder's soulful melodies, Jamiroquai's dance grooves and Norah Jones' jazzy vocals.
Her first single, "27C", soon to be released, already seduced radios with its reggae harmonies and exotic flavors, and will soon take over your tv screens. The music video was recently shot and is about to be aired... (stay tuned...)
Songs like "Talk To Me", "Meant To Be", "Over Again", "Back Together" and "Fly" prove us that Sophie's songwriting and production skills are able to travel through various musical landscapes with ease, taste and style. This is how Sophie builds her story, and maybe without being aware of it, the history of a new pop/soul scene that the audience has been waiting for so long.
A beautiful and charming woman with the freshness of her youth (she is only 24 years old), DELILA has everything. She is shiny, audacious and sincere. With her wide crossover repertoire, Sophie is a character of her own. Her versatile clairvoyance is like a breath of fresh air in our everyday lives.

some of the songs are on the slower side and kind of awkward for my tastes. the uptempbo funky dance songs are a highlight. my faves too faithful, fly, back together, and talk to me.
