“Rochell D. Hart, known to many as Ro Deezy, is absolutely one of the most phenomenal, powerful and incredible women, poets, teachers, thinkers and leaders of the present time.
↓ more ↓Once described as a “female cross between Langston Hughes and 2 PAC”, Miss Deezy is dynamically doing her part to eradicate so many social issues. From women’s rights to racism, to unfair treatment of the poor and oppressed, Deezy is making an impact across the board. More than words … she puts her beliefs in action, and that alone is a gift. If you don’t know who she is, FIND OUT.” David Seletzige, Ph.D. Trenton, New Jersey
An underground superstar and still in her twenties, Rochell D. (Ro Deezy) Hart is already a veteran of her game. An Oregonian Newspaper writer hailed her as "A female cross between Langston Hughes and 2 PAC" while Spoken Vizions Magazine called Ro "The Queen from the West." Cris Day of the Willamette Week Newspaper said, "... she stands out as an original and intelligent voice struggling free from a crowd of one-dimensional stereotypes."
An award-nominated author, activist and man-loving radical feminist, Ro was the first black woman from Oregon to represent the state at the 10th Annual National Poetry Slam (Chicago, IL 1999). She opened shows for artist that range from the Grammy Award winning group, The Roots to the Revolutionary But Gangsta Dead Prez (seen recently in Dave Chapelle’s BLOCK PARTY). Ro has also met and shared the stage with Laura "Piece" Kelly of Russell Simmons / HBO Def Poetry Jam, the legendary Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou.
Ro's second book, a 200-page collection of confessional poetry titled "A Black Girl's Song" (Highbridge Press, NY 2001) was considered for the Oregon Book Award - the highest literary award in the state. Ro has performed her prolific spoken word at innumerable open-mic and featured shows. Her passionate prose and poetry has been solicited by NIKE, The Urban League, The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, The Spring Valley (NY) Domestic Violence Institute, Portland Community College, Portland State University, Washington State University, Bennett (NC) University, The U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs, African-American Health Coalition and many, many more.
This debut album, (which Ro wrote entirely) is a mix of socially conscious spoken word and hip-hop, features HOT beats and total production by David (O.G. One) Jackson of O.G. One Productions. Since it's release, the CD has gained attention and sold copies throughout the states and internationally including Japan, the UK and New Mexico. Ro Deezy's sophomore album, "The Prodigal Daughter" of which she is executive producer, is expected to be released sometime in 2006. Hart's fifth book, a collection of nonfiction biographies of 76 black women that Hart interviewed over a three year period, was released at the end of 2005 from Publish America (Baltimore). The book is titled "I Woke Up And Put My Crown On - The Project of 76 Voices” and can be purchased nationwide anywhere books are sold.
