Bio / Background
Richard Flemming is a rock band from Canton, OH. They were formed in the summer of 2004 by Hank Whitaker (Guitars/Vocals), Dave Queen (Guitars/Vocals), Justin Luntz (Bass), and Michael Hetrick (Drums) while attending Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, OH.
Richard Flemming quickly gained popularity from their intense live acts which included a unique blend of original material as well as a diverse palette of cover songs (The Rolling Stones, Battles, The Dismemberment Plan, Explosions in the Sky, Blur, The Kinks, The Who, DJ Shadow, Talking Heads, Ray Charles, Weezer and many others). As each show went by, Flemming introduced more and more original songs.
Flemming went on a temporary semi-hiatus the following year as Whitaker moved to Bloomington, IN for school. Performances were scarce during this time, but the song-writing became the primary focus as many demos were sent back and forth over the internet between the two states.
↓ more ↓Reunited during breaks from school, Flemming found the time to perform and write music together. Buzz about the bands explosive live performances began to form a number of local legends during this time -- including numerous shows broken up by the police, another in which an elderly woman from a nursing home in the area was so affected by the sound of the band she vomited in her room and yet another show that ended in an all-out riot where the crowd tore onto the stage and covered the band, the performance space and themselves in a sheet of bottled water.
In the summer of 2007, Flemming moved onto a farm in West Virginia to record the ten songs that would become their eponymous debut album. They released this album independently in August of 2007.
