Seasonal and Christmas music on Native American Flute, guitar, vocal and soft percussion. Original and traditional songs by award winning, New Mexico musician. Sounds like R. Carlos Nakai, Josh Groban,Windham Hill or Narada collections.
Bio / Background
Traditional and New Holiday/Seasonal music offerings on Native American flute, guitar, voice and percussion from award winning, New Mexico, Emo-Southwest musician Randy Granger.
Winter colors is ten fresh, original sounding and tenderly rendered seasonal songs both classic and new. There is an emotional content to this music as well. Starting with Calling Snow, a soft chant-like song on percussion and a delightful duet between flutes. Calling Snow paints an image of the season in a Southwest long ago when Winter's first snowfall signaled a period of reflection. Solo flute versions of Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel and Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring are haunting and respectful. Lullay Lullay, Little Drummer Boy, and Oh Christmas Tree all on light percussion and flute are great mood setting songs and will possible have the listener unconsciously singing along.
What Child is This and Silent Night include Native American Flute, guitar and percussion.
↓ more ↓Silent Night includes a higher pitched flute on Obligato--or the improvised and harmony melody above the main melody. It is moving and memorable. Snow Geese is a haunting solo that captures Snow Geese in flight. The stirring Appalacian melody of I Wonder as I Wander starts out solo flute then an A Cappella version sandwiched between that is stunning. Granger uses a Native American Drone, or double barrel, flute for an effect that eerily beautiful.
This CD is perfect for creating a seasonal introspective atmosphere. Whether watching the snow falling outside, setting up for a party, looking at lights or driving Winter Colors captures the beauty and starkness of the season in the Southwest. A must add for your holiday collection right next to your George Wintson December discs and Windham Hill and Celtic Winter Collections.
Randy earned 2nd place at the 2007 Musical Echoes Native American flute festival and competition. He is a 2007 "Rising Star" selected performer at Zion Canyon Art and Flute Festival. He is a 2007 nominee for the Native American Music Awards or NAMMY's and the New Mexico Music Industry Awards. He performs for festivals, solo concerts, fundraisers, special events as well as volunteers his music regularly in Hospice and Hospital settings. Both CDBaby.com and ABC's Download.com selected Randy's music as "Editor's Picks."
Listen and hear why Granger's music is used in films, documentaries, on websites, internet radio stations and why he is a regular in-studio guest on many public radio stations and the subject of numerous features and articles.
A native of New Mexico, Granger brings the mystical and magical sensibility that is the Desert Southwest to his music. Of Mexican, Native American, Indian and western European ancestry Granger's influences are complex and conflicting--leading to a beautiful and intangible tension in his music that resolves into a deep peacefulness.

Snow Geese -- Amazing songjohnrplatt wrote on February 03, 2009
There are some wonderful songs on this disk. Snow Geese is probably my favorite, and one of my favorite songs by Randy Granger. About six of these songs are traditional Christmas songs, so that may affect your enjoyment of the whole CD on a year-round basis, but give it a try.
