Bio / Background
Patrick Poladian, born in Paris, France began performing as a pianist in various musical settings including the Jules Verne Restaurant on top of the Eiffel Tower, and was broadcast live, leading his quintet, on Radio France. Patrick moved to the U.S. in the eighties and has been active since in the New York jazz scene. He led his own trio at Birdland several times and performed at many clubs in Harlem, including the Lenox Lounge (with trumpeter Roy Campbell), the Metro Café, The Sugar Shack Café, Londell's and La Famille.
In the eighties, Patrick was musical director of the show "Not Just Another Pretty Face" and took part in a Duke Ellington memorial concert, led by Mercer Ellington. He created a live improvised musical accompaniment to a dance performance at the Merce Cunningham Studio, together with trumpeter Roy Campbell. He has been participating for many years in the annual "All Night Soul" jazz marathon at St. Peter's Church.
↓ more ↓He also performed with Reggie Workman, Arthur Blythe, Art Farmer, Wayne Dockery, Leon Thomas and the late Beaver Harris and Clarence Sharp.
He has performed at various clubs in Harlem including Lenox Lounge and St. Nick's Pub. In April 2003, he performed with Della Griffin at the Langston Hughes Library in Corona, NY as well as at other libraries in the metropolitan area. In addition to his work in the jazz field, Patrick is involved with the Unity East Church Center as a pianist/music advisor to the choir, performing both traditional and gospel music.
Patrick is a music educator, having studied with Dr. Billy Taylor in the Jazzmobile workshops, and received an M.A. in Music Education from Lehman College. He also studied music at the Leyat Institute in Paris. He is a member of La Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique in Paris, the American Federation of Musicians and B.M.I.
Patrick has two recordings as a leader -- "The Paris-Manhattan Trip" and "The Chabak Trio" -- both released on his label, Voyage Music. He was interviewed on radio station WBGO and was broadcast live on WHCR, leading the Chabak Trio. In 2002 Patrick released a new recording entitled "Comfort Me Blue," featuring Akira Tana (drums) and Sean Smith (bass).
