Formed in Gainesville, Florida in 1998 by Joe C. and Scott Free, Munkeez Strikin Matchiz (MSM) has since solidified their presence as a "must see" show on the north-central Florida music scene. The band has provided fans at hundreds of shows with their high-energy, full-of-fun stage performances.
MSM and/or individual band members have shared the stage with such notable performers as The Wailers, Bernie Worrell & The Woo Warriors, Original Parliament, The Steve Kimock Band, Leftover Salmon, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Buckethead, Les Claypool, George Clinton, Living Colour, Hot Tuna and Bo Diddley.
Scott Free and Joe C.
↓ more ↓laid the groundwork that would result in the Fall 2005 release of the Munkeez Strikin' Matchiz debut full-length CD 'BananAtomic Mass', a no-holds-barred, collection of songs that supports not only the band's unique ability to transcend musical genres, but also supports the concept of "omni-dimensional beings" who come to the rescue of a planet whose scientific community "goes bananas" following their success at splitting the atom.
*Why The Name Munkeez Strikin' Matchiz?
When Scott Free lived in New Mexico in 1990, he met a scientist at Los Alamos Labs who recalled hearing a story that went like this: After being invited to work on the Manhattan Project, Albert Einstein was said to have referred to project scientists as "monkeys striking matches." Einstein alledgedly went on to say "Scientists who base their calculations on E=mc2, should concentrate on splitting bananas, not atoms."
We share 96% of our DNA with chimps, and from afar, probably look like "monkeys striking matches."
Based upon the evidence of:
a. man's waste of Earth's natural resources
b. our ease with "living pollution"
c. our well documented traits of racism, sexism, ageism, and terrorism
~one realizes that we may very easily fit the bill...

Munkeez Strikin Matchiz Are On Fire!Booger wrote on June 14, 2007
This album caught my friends and I completely off guard as we were trolling through album after album of independent music, some good, some bad but this seemed to everyone present to be the breath of fresh air. It bristles with energy from the first song to the last song. It is obvious the producer wants quality and they deliver. My fave was the Al Green inspired (I think) 'Unscathed' but the party started with 'Ankle Deep' and 'Wreck It' If you miss James Brown, the perfect tribute is 'No Time' and there are many more killer-funk tracks. En-freakin-joy!
