Bio / Background
Just in time for the spring thaw comes this deeply immersive work of expanded and expanding arctic shimmers from the talented synthesist Michael Peck. Taking some cues from Brian Eno's "On Land," Steve Roach's "Dreamtime Return" and Biosphere's "Subtrata 1-2," but unique in its unpredictable, often subtle use of polyrhythms, off-time counterpoints, and whispering texture maps Glacial is a thick geo-sonic masterwork on the cutting edge of the genre. From the icy,
exhalations of "Cold Flow" to the epic, symphonic traverse of the aptly titled "Debris from a Thousand Landscapes," M. Peck is holding nothing back here. Glacial is one of those rare, unabashedly atmospheric discs that reverberates without a hint of cliche or pretension. Fellow Gears of Sand artist, Synthetic Block, sums up Glacial's final moments and overall affect nicely: "The journey wraps up with Ghost Psalm, which is another ambient composition that fits
the title of this disc well.
↓ more ↓I've enjoyed Mike's work with Mark Mahoney, and it's nice to hear him solo. Although "A Cognitive Chaos" and "Debris From a Thousand Landscapes" are my favorite tracks on this disc, the way that all the pieces flow into one another give the CD a very cohesive feel. A plus is the great sound; the disc was mastered by Art Cohen. A great disc overall."
