Alternative pop with a touch of hysteria.
Bio / Background
'moody' is presently available through digital distribution only.
Vocalists who brandish the order to "shut up and listen" run the risk of becoming hoydens, or divas, or worse. But Monique Barry has other plans.
Bypassing conventional musical expectations, she pitches tunesmith ambition straight ahead while coming at you from the side, and the art of song flares in seriocomic musical musings. Pleasures and suspicions that lilt and scatter like loose change. Intoxication and alarm - spot the difference? Plainsong tangling on the edges of unsettled thoughts. One world exchanged for another. Free-floating seaside chants, howls from a hausfrau's opera. The sounds of infant spirits that shift, sulk, and smile.
It's a lot to seek out, but you can find it all here- if you shut up and listen.
Michael Leo, September 1998
