"Beautiful melancholy" is the best way to describe Luis Angulos new release "Ayer y Hoy" Spanish Rock at its best with influences like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie Peter Gabriel and others "Ayer y Hoy"" is a must hear..
Bio / Background
Luis Angulos "Ayer y Hoy" is simply a description of its title; compositions from the present and the past.Written Produced and recorded by himself at home it is an album that doesn't sound compromising but sounds instead very atmospheric,,deep, melancholic and personal.
"A lot of this songs were simply written on an acoustic guitar and then i added drum samples, bass, synthesizers and guitar layers as i went along" says Luis.Back then when i wrote some of the songs 10 years ago i didn't have any recording devices so i would just play the guitar, write the lyrics and sometimes the chords and put them in a shoe box where i have all my personal belongings, because i knew one day i would come back and finish them up.The problem was when i finally did i had partly forgotten the arrangements so i had to rewrite them for some of the tunes over again.Which wasn't bad after all because they sounded fresh to my ears and made me produce them in a way i would have probably not thought of back then...
↓ more ↓The first piece 'Don Juan" is a song about Carlos Castañedas book "Las enseñansas de Don Juan" with direct quotations about the mistery of the authors psychodelic experiences and hallucinations with Peyote.
the following track "Creciente" is a song about schizophrenia. It opens up with an intro which suggests Pink Floyds "welcome to the machine",breaking soon into an acoustic riff and a creepy ending of strange sounds, children voices and telephone answering machines in german language.
the third track "Mujer Bella" is a groovy 70's oriented which probably makes this track one of the popiest tunes.
Then the melancholic pieces like "No soy como el" and "Rain" shows perhaps a small glance of the songwriters personal side.
Finally the closing track "Rey del Cielo" is a song about a controversial God and maybe even a reflection of the present times.
