Eclectic intelligent pop/rock with classic rock and art-rock influences
Bio / Background
Art rock meets classic rock/pop on “Little Extremes”, the debut album from Los Angeles singer/songwriter/producer Lori Lynner. Featured on XM 52 Radio Unsigned and Garageband.com, the middle-Eastern flavored rocker "Habit" kicks off the album, beginning a musical journey through the heart and mind. Lush ballads, punkabilly-honky-tonk, Americana, sex-rock...the album is eclectic, intelligent, visceral. Lending their talents to the record: mixer/engineer Joe Chiccarelli (U2, Frank Zappa, American Music Club), string arranger David Campbell (Sheryl Crow, Beck, Rolling Stones) and guitarist Mike Miller, among others.
Lori Lynner’s music is influenced by such artists as The Beatles, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones, John Hiatt, King Crimson, the Replacements, and P.J. Harvey. Her voice is the centerpiece of the songs, and it is seasoned, agile, and sensual.
↓ more ↓Her lyrics explore ideas from love and desire to the mundane details of everyday life, with honesty, wit, warmth, and sometimes fire.
Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Lori began singing professionally in her teens, performing many styles of music in different settings: jazz duos, big band swing, rock, country...even campy, costumed 60’s girl group pop. She studied briefly at the Univ. of Utah, then traveled to London, England, where she studied music and acting, waited tables, and did a bit of wandering. Upon returning to the U.S. with a new appreciation for rain, Lori decided to move to Seattle, WA.
In Seattle Lori’s talents were soon in high demand, keeping her busy with session work, gigs, and voice-over. She studied acting and performed in local theatre, worked as a bandleader/singer on a dinner cruise ship, and soaked up the exciting atmosphere of Seattle in the '90s. She also began to focus more seriously on being an original artist and songwriter, recording demos and an EP, and performing in Seattle clubs.
In 1997, once again feeling the need for a challenge, Lori moved to Los Angeles. More gigs and sessions. She continued to write songs and hone her own musical style, and began production on her debut album. After several years of hard work and “stop and go” production , the album “Little Extremes” was released in the fall of 2004.
Lori also sings in the Cowling Band, "the best cover band I've ever heard" -Instyle Magazine. They recently played the 2006 Golden Globes after-party at the Beverly Hilton, as well as the weddings of Adam Sandler, Trista and Ryan (the Bachelorette), Charlie Sheen, and many others. She sang the theme song for the Oxygen Channel's "Mr. Romance" and performed it live on the final show. She has recorded vocals for Miles Copeland’s Bellydance Superstars, Brian Setzer's Christmas CD, and on Craig Jackson's records. She is currently busy promoting “Little Extremes” with solo acoustic shows in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities.
