Catchy melodies melted over driving rhythm in a steaming pot of folk rock, radio-friendly pop and spiced with jazz harmony.
Bio / Background
"Wade's song 'Where Here Is' is a shockingly great moment in independently produced music & 'Revolution' is a tasty combination of Jeff Buckley meets flamenco. Songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist Wade Linkert's genius is obvious."
~ Alex Oana, Producer/Engineer, MMA's 'producer of the year'
'Where Here Is' has to be one of the best songs I've heard on the local MN scene."
~ Andrew Kolars, KTOE-The Spot
Armed with a large catalogue of songs, Wade recorded his first cd, simply entitled "Flavor," in the spring of 2001. To actualize his vision for the songs, he performed all of the instruments on the cd which included drums, bass, guitars, percussion, keys, and vocals. The music has been added to the play lists of many radio stations throughout the Midwest and one the tracks, "Revolution," won a NARAS/ Grammy's Song Writing Contest in 2002. This track, along with three others found their way to the newly released recording, "Behind a Smile.
↓ more ↓" Along with seven newly self-recorded tracks "Behind a Smile" is made up of 11 very eclectic songs that have a pop/rock sensibility laced with funky hooks, latin rhythms, and soulful melodies.
Shortly after recording his first cd, he recruited some live players to help perform his music live around his Minneapolis hometown. This newly formed group, which took on the band name FLAVOR, made a mark quickly in the local music scene. They were nominated for BEST NEW BAND for the 2002 Minnesota Music Awards and began winning a number of contests with their eclectic and moody live performances including the 2002 KQRS Homegrown Contest, the Jim Beam Band of the Week Contest, and the Best Band competition at St. Scholastica. He is now currently playing live as the frontman for FLAVOR. Wade along with the rest of FLAVOR just released their brand new cd, entitled "RED" which is also available at cd baby.com.
What started it all?
Playing the role of rhythm maker, room shaker, Wade was the drummer in a few different bands starting in his early (and awkward) adolescence. Not only was he inspired by the rhythms of many a classic and hard rock artist anywhere from Santana to Motley Crue, but his perception of melody was beginning to take shape not unlike broken-in PlayDo. He began to make some tunes of his own after learning to play some of those melodies on an old steel-string guitar of his dad's and an electric axe that his brother had been playing old Metallica and Pink Floyd songs on. Being the drummer had its advantages since everyone Wade played with would often leave their instruments behind at his house to be noodled on by him.
He became fascinated with the role of different instruments in music, focusing on the production and arrangement of songs. He payed more attention to what drew him to certain types of music which had broadened quite considerably by his later (and still awkward) teens. His shower singing bloomed into something he could eventually bring himself to record on a cheap 4-track that a good friend and guitarist brought over. He was enthralled when he learned he could multi-track record some of these different instruments, being a Jack of a few trades and a master of none. The next few years that ensued brought a flood of songs, a desire for technical proficiency, and an exciting discovery of new music. He went through different 'flavors of the month,' happening upon Latin music, funk, hip hop, blues, classical music, and soul.
